'We will remember them'

My Mum 1943, aged 18
Remembrance Sunday Service on BBC Radio Four, from the Cenotaph in Whitehall

It was always a treat to listen to this radio programme with my Mum when I would pull up an extra stool in the kitchen beside her. This was an occasion made even more special when the programme was all over, when words could pass from our lips again, because then I could listen to many stories from Mum's teenage-life in the Women’s Royal Air Force, stories that often included her best friend, and my Godmother, who is still alive and still telling stories.

Quite a different life at seventeen-years-old than mine was.

I have been remembering with my Mum, in her absence, again this morning.
Notes

‘We will remember them’ – from Ode of Remembrance by Laurence Binyon, first published in September 1914.
